This study focuses on characteristics of bonding and bridging social capital and then discusses why the two forms of social capital have differing effects on corruption and social mobility. A cross-national analysis was provided using data from World Values Surveys and Corruption Perception Index. It found that bonding social capital has a positive association with corruption while bridging social capital appears to be negatively associated with corruption. In addition, bonding social capital indirectly hinder social mobility through corruption.  Corruption, in a broad society, deters the equal dissemination of opportunity for individual to improve social position through their own effort.
